1–3 · Get yourself unstuck
Out here, getting stuck is a when, not an if. These three get you moving without a tow you can't call for.
- Traction boards — the fastest way out of sand, mud, or snow.
- A real shovel — for digging out tires and clearing washes.
- Tow strap and a rated recovery point — so a passing truck can pull you out safely.
4–5 · The most common breakdown
Flats are the number-one thing that strands people on dirt roads.
- A plug kit and a 12V air compressor — fix most punctures roadside in minutes.
- A full-size spare you've actually checked — a flat spare is just luggage.
6–7 · The desert basics
Heat and dehydration turn a minor delay into a real problem fast.
- Extra water — more than you think, stored where heat won't wreck the container.
- Sun and heat protection — shade, a hat, sunscreen for a long wait.
8 · A way to call out with no signal
Cell coverage disappears fast out here.
- A satellite messenger or a charged backup phone and power bank — a way to reach someone when there are no bars.
9–10 · Patch the truck and patch yourself
The last two cover small failures and human ones.
- A basic tool and tape kit — jump pack, duct tape, zip ties, multi-tool, flashlight.
- A real first-aid kit — and knowing how to use it, because help is farther away.
